Alicia Whalen

An innovator, influencer & digital media expert, Alicia has spent over 15 years helping organizations such as; Westjet, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Blackberry, Travel Alberta, and Nova Scotia Tourism, develop targeted, measurable, and Interactive strategies to increase reach, customer retention, and conversions.

An early adopter to digital marketing, Alicia has been executing successful cross-platform digital and social media campaigns, digital brand launches, and multi-channel social media strategies since before the term Social Media was even born. 

Alicia Co-Founded the first of it's kind, "A Couple of Chicks" consultancy firm (2005-2015) specialized in digital marketing for the travel industry. With a virtual team located across Canada and the US, the agency developed the first in-house SEO program for Marriott Hotels, supported DMO's, Hotel groups and other Travel suppliers in developing and executing digital marketing and SEO campaigns.

A Couple of Chicks also founded the first and only Digital and Social Media Marketing Conference for the Canadian tourism industry - Online Revealed in 2005. For ten years, this annual conference garnered support from brands such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook, Tripadvisor, Travelzoo, and Expedia - and attracted over 200 tourism industry professionals and was home to the Canadian eTourism awards.

Alicia also lead the Canadian Destination Benchmarking program (2011-2013) that measured the digital and social media reach of 22 Canadian DMO's against each other, and against Destination's in the US and New Zealand. Working with Miles Media, Sparkloft, and Ryerson University, this program used Google analytics data shared by participating DMO's, as well as other data to measure the digital health of Canadian DMO's, and to identify trends for digital marketing campaign planning.

Currently, Alicia works with travel brands, DMO's, Hotels and suppliers to connect technology to digital marketing strategy and execution, working with companies that include programmatic advertising platform Sojern, and Hotel Technology company Leonardo, and as a consultant for many other DMO's and travel brands. She is a social media influencer on Twitter and is a speaker and guest blogger around the topics of Social Selling, What's next in Social and Digital marketing, and the impact that Digital media has had on consumer behaviour and on marketing travel.

Focusing on the next big thing in digital media, Alicia is the Co-founder of the Social Media integration platform – a web and mobile responsive social media integration platform that pulls in social media to the website, allowing brands to harness the power of social media to drive sales.
