Best practices for DMOs whilst developing B2B and B2C training

We received this question from Mikela Mandalenaki, PR Manager of Marketing Greece, one of our valued DTTT Members.

Would you be able to share with me any ideas for B2B and B2C training and educational initiatives for tourism enterprises and the wider audience from other DMOs?

We are looking into developing our B2B and B2C training/educational initiatives, in a creative and engaging way not only for tourism enterprises but for the wider audience, as well. To give you an idea, we have so far set up a few B2B and B2C training meetings in destinations.

Would you be able to share with me any ideas from other DMOs that may have done something more structured and consistent?

Here's a list of updated best practices and ideas to look at whilst developing training and educational B2B and B2C activities.

For Travel Agents:

  • Switzerland Travel Academy. An e-training course consisting of core and specialisation modules. Specialisation modules offer a deeper focus on different topics such as family holidays, accommodation offers, and outdoor activities. It includes certification through a final exam, and the possibility to renew your certificate every year

For Tour operators and suppliers:

  • Abu Dhabi Specialist Program. Developed as part of the response to the pandemic, this e-learning course aims to give tour operators and suppliers the tools to be knowledgeable through education, training and certification.

For Industry:

  • STB Marketing college. E-training and development programme addressing 20 marketing capabilities in six modules. Developed on the STB e-Learning Portal, it's a great way to learn at the desired pace and receive an e-certificate upon completion of each module.
  • Usus - Visit Southern Norway. A great example of a network and community of businesses, creating an ongoing programme of learning, coaching, support and training.
  • Slovenia Digital Academy. A comprehensive course developed by Slovenia to help of domestic and foreign experts for the effective implementation of content in digital marketing and to introduce them to the strategic planning of digital performances. Here is the 2019 programme.
  • Grow with Google for Tourism, a digital training programme for businesses designed 100% in Greek led by Maria Founta.

B2C/Educational:

  • South Dakota's Today's Lesson. Aimed to educate and engage kids in a very fun way. Kids can then put the lessons into practice with easy-to-do, hands-on activities
  • The Guide to Climate Change. A great initiative to educate, engage and raise the awareness about the impact of climate change on Greenland.
  • Sustainable Moments. Even if not super eye-catchy it has a very rich section with lots of tips to educate tourists on responsible and sustainable travel
