December 2024
Culture

The IGLTA Foundation is deeply committed to championing equality and diversity in the travel industry, striving for a world where LGBTQ+ individuals can explore the globe freely and without encountering discrimination. We collaborate closely with industry experts, organizations, and communities to realize our vision. Our approach involves offering valuable resources, conducting insightful research, and providing educational opportunities to empower businesses to become more inclusive and embracing of all travellers.

We wanted to understand how to build greater opportunities for 2SLGBTQI+ travellers aged 18-35 to travel, work, build connections and confidence.

The initiative was driven by International Experience Canada

  • Open work permit (working holiday), or employer-specific work permits (international co-op and young professionals)
  • Valid for up to 2 years for young adults (18-35)

Research Aims

  • Understand the general attitudes and underlying factors shaping decision making among 2SLGBTQI+ youth towards travel and work (Canada outbound and inbound)
  • Identify the particular concerns and challenges faced by 2SLGBTQI+ youth at different stages of planning/travelling
  • Explore the positive and negative experiences of 2SLGBTQI+ former work and travel participants
