Forum
This forum is organised by the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities, together with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Tourism Organization. It will bring together stakeholders from government, the tourism sector and academia to discuss the opportunities and risks from Artificial Intelligence (AI) diffusion in tourism, and the implications for businesses, destinations, and policy makers. It will consider current AI applications in tourism and explore the potential for AI-enhanced innovations to help shape a stronger, more sustainable tourism economy. Participants will exchange views and experiences on the development of policies, programmes and initiatives to promote the ethical and trustworthy use of AI in tourism and support the sector to keep pace and make the most of these rapidly evolving technologies.
Rationale
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and changing many aspects of our lives - and is emerging as a transformative force in tourism offering significant innovation potential to address pressing challenges within the sector. While adoption rates vary across the tourism sector, the current and potential impacts of AI are becoming increasingly tangible as businesses drive the development of AI applications. There is a need to navigate the potential opportunities, challenges, and risks AI presents, for tourists, workers, businesses, destinations, local communities, and policy. The OECD is supporting governments to shape safe, secure, and trustworthy AI, and the work of the OECD Tourism Committee is bringing a sectoral focus to these efforts. Building on the G7/OECD Policy Paper on Artificial Intelligence and Tourism, this forum will advance these efforts, as part of Korea’s APEC 2025 host year.
