Skift Aviation Forum 2024: 10 Takeaways for the Future of Flying

December 2024
Aviation

This November, the Skift Aviation Forum returned to Dallas, bringing together some of the most prominent players in the aviation industry. Held at The Statler Hotel, A Curio Collection By Hilton, and co-hosted by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and American Airlines, the industry’s top executives and thought leaders stared down some of the biggest issues facing the sector’s future.

The event also helped celebrate the 50th-anniversary of DFW: What started with three runways and 6.8 million passengers in 1974 has become a 171-gate giant that serves 80 million passengers each year. These big numbers show just how far the business has come in five decades — but today's industry leaders face plenty of challenges as they look ahead to 2025.

For this report, Skift partnered with Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) to highlight some of the most compelling conversations from the day. Speakers discussed how they make decisions about new routes, what they believe today’s customers expect, why the ultra-lowcost carrier model has hit so many bumps, and more. Here, we look at 10 of the most valuable takeaways from the event, showing where the industry is heading next.
