Tourism Becomes Climate-Sensitive

Tourism represents an enormous asset of value for Italy, and not only in economic terms, given that it attracts 51.7 billion euros of direct tourist consumption from abroad to holiday destinations in 2023, but also and above all for the sector's ability to activate employment and involve one of the longest entrepreneurial supply chains, giving the host communities involved the certainty of a future.

We must, however, take care of this heritage, first of all of the territories, of their excellence and their fragilities, of which Italy, thanks to its immense landscape variety, from the coasts to the highest peaks, is very gifted, but which by virtue of its such a favorable geographical position is at the same time also put at risk.

And consequently, we must take care of the social heritage, of the residents, of the workers in the sector, of that economic future that we have no right to waste, and sustainably preserve our beautiful holiday destinations in their uniqueness and with the prospect of growth for the sector.

Today, in fact, the ever-increasing awareness of the progressive increase in temperatures, of a climate change that will sooner or later have real effects on the territory, on tourism, on society, leads us to quickly take solutions that concern us all as a destination, as operators, as tourists themselves.

We strongly wanted to work on this theme so that the Italian tourism system can equip itself as soon as possible with countermeasures that slow down the effects of climate change, that put all of us in a position to adapt the processes and products of the offer, and to contribute firsthand, also as residents and tourists of the country, to the protection of that value that represents us, that is the basis of our daily life.

A heritage made up of internal areas where we produce our excellent agri-food products, of natural coastal and island landscapes sought after by tourists from all over the world, of an artistic and cultural heritage that places us at the top for our UNESCO sites, of Alpine and Apennine peaks where we protect a flora and fauna that differentiates us from our neighbors across the Alps, but above all of people, who invest in this sector, often with their entire family, their lives and their future.
