In this activity, we will focus on the first stage of Design Thinking, empathise.
During the activity, it is important for everyone in the team to set aside their assumptions and gather real and relevant insights into the challenge to later act upon it.

Through this activity, we want to help you describe and reflect on the aspects of the stakeholders' experiences, needs and pain points in regards to sustainability. This will allow you to gain a better understanding of your stakeholders’ experiences and mindset by means of later taking into consideration all the different perspectives in the destination.
The first step of the exercise will require your team to gather and list all the different stakeholders that are involved in the destination. That includes businesses, locals, travellers, etc. Make sure to dedicate some time to this part of the exercise, as it will help you identify all the parties that need to be taken into consideration when creating the sustainability strategy.
Once you have considered all of the stakeholders, you'll have to examine what are their struggles in regards to sustainability. This can be anything from understanding how to implement more sustainable solutions to learning how to adopt sustainability certifications. Think it through and write as many ideas you can come up with, as we'll be able to use them later!
The previous step will help you determine what the needs of the stakeholders are. Make sure to keep these at hand, as before the module ends you'll be able to use them to ideate on how your DMO can help solve these struggles.
Lastly, we would like you to consider what the different stakeholders do on a daily basis, which can be of great utility when thinking of the solutions that our strategy could include to help them improve their processes. But remember, in this exercise, you should only think of whether the stakeholders are already implementing sustainability or looking at it in any way.
