Gemma Myhill - Head of Sustainability, Partnerships & Projects

The Travel Corporation

As the Head of Sustainability, Partnerships and Projects for The Travel Corporation’s Tour Brands, Gemma works closely with various departments across the business to market and promote the progress of their 5-year sustainability strategy whilst also driving conscious and responsible growth for the business through marketing efforts.

Gemma has led the implementation of several key partnerships focused on sustainability. She designed and implemented an industry-first policy in which TTC’s Tour Brands said “no to more stuff”, replacing branded merchandise designed to be given away with donations to nature-based solutions partners.  With Switzerland Tourism she managed multi-channel awareness campaigns as well as a multi-brand familiarisation trip for top travel agents globally. Designed to promote Switzerland’s “Swisstainable” program and drive growth for TTC’s Switzerland tours, both were achieved, with a significant increase in mono Switzerland tour sales. For TTC’s ongoing Visit Scotland partnership she is responsible for bridging the gap between product and sales, ensuring two-way dialogue and effectively articulating and marketing positive changes made to Scotland tour products. Year one of the partnership has seen significant increase in interest for sustainable Scotland tours as well as shoulder season growth.

Outside of the workplace, Gemma has undertaken Harvard’s undergraduate Sustainable Tourism course, which further fuelled her passion for sustainable practices. This also led her to support and volunteer with Apidae - a Geneva-based association with a mission to maintain biodiversity and restore local bee populations which are under threat.

Judges Comments

Gemma is a true front runner taking a lead role in enabling TTC's Sustainability Strategy to become a reality, working with partners, across the various different brands and activating impactful partnerships with leading destinations in Europe who share the same vision and values as TTC.

Her actions to change corporate practices play a key role in adapting industry 'norms' and practices to consider the environment first and recognise that behavioural change starts with us.
