Hailing from Nova Scotia, Jill has very much made Newfoundland and Labrador her home away from home while continuing her studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland. As a scientist and videographer, Jill documents everything from her diving expeditions to her studies of our beloved provincial bird – and makes it look like a piece of cake.
Jill has gained a following sharing her content on platforms such as Instagram and Youtube, with her focus being to educate and provide a “behind-the-scenes” look at experiences that the average person may not have access to otherwise. Although she no doubt has a very busy schedule, she maintains engagement with inquiring minds and offers up her own knowledge and recommendations on things to do and places to see in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Her willingness to collaborate with us as a tourism destination has been mutually beneficial and widely appreciated. She continues to be an awesome advocate for our province, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!
Jill really impressed the judges with her talent, highly personable and educational approach to content creation, her focus on sustainability and all-round engaging content. Whilst perhaps not what she sets out to be, she is a true ambassador and positive influencer for Newfoundland and Labrador and inspiration to others. If ever there was an example of the sort of influencers and content creators destinations should be working with, this is surely it. The judges particularly loved how her passion for the region in which she lives and studies is her sole focus and how she's been able to combine scientific expertise with creative talent which extends to an interesting media mix.
